The Ancient City of Rome

This drawing shows the ancient City of Rome to the extent of the Aurelian Walls.  The Tiber (blue) flows from top to bottom in the drawing. The walls are colored black, roads a pale green and buildings in earth tones.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A somewhat closer view of the ancient city center is shown below.  This illustration includes the Campus Martius, the Capitoline and Palatine hills, the Circus Maximus, the Forum Romanum and the Imperial Fora, and the complex of buildings around the Colosseum.

 

The two following illustrations show details of the above drawing. The first shows the area around the fora, the second shows the Campus Martius.
