This view is about 4 miles wide and 3 miles from top to bottom.
The original city of Rome, Roma Quadrata, was on the Palatine hill and enclosed by walls along its summit. These walls, and those fortifying the Capitoline hill are shown in purple. The Severan walls of about 500 BCE are shown in Blue and the Aurelian walls from about 300 CE are shown in Red.
Notice how the walls took advantage of the slopes of the hills and the Tiber.
